4.10.1 - Wire Rope Safety cont.
All wire ropes and fittings should be visually inspected prior to and during use and thoroughly inspected at
least once a week for:
• abrasion
• broken wire
• wear
• reduction in rope diameter
• reduction in wire diameter
• fatigue, corrosion
• damage from heat
• improper reeving
• jamming, crushing
• bird caging
• kinking,
• core protrusion
• damage to lifting hardware
Wire ropes should be replaced when inspection indicates excessive damage. End fittings and connections
consist of spliced eyes and various manufactured devices. All manufactured end fittings and connections
should be installed according to the manufacturer's instructions and loaded according to the manufacturer's
specifications.
